We have been keeping our music study very simple this year but it has actually been getting done, which is nice for a change! Here’s what we’ve been doing:
Rose (5): Sonlight assigns a song for each week of Core P4/5….tunes like “The Bear Went Over the Mountain” and “Here We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush”. I do a search for the song title on You Tube which turns up tons of links to animated versions of the song and she chooses a version or two to listen to most days.
James (9) is using the Classical Kids CD’s. I think we own just about all of them, after collecting them for years. Each CD is a story about a famous composer interspersed with their music. I really love these! He listens to one every two weeks or so. Recently, I have been having him listen on a portable CD player with his headphones and he likes to go outside and lie on the picnic table to “do his music”.
Christopher (11) and Grace (13) have been using the Classics for Kids CD. They listen to a song each week and every so often I ask them to choose a few pieces to review. I have The World’s Very Best Opera for Kids lined up for when they finish this.
And that’s how we’ve been doing music this year!
