For the week of January 18th…
How I haven’t done a Monday Musings post in ages!
Some plans for this week
Christopher is turning 13 – so that’s the big deal around here this week. We have a fun day planned for his birthday, and then family visiting over the weekend to help us celebrate. Two teenagers in the house! Besides getting ready for his big day, I have been working on putting together a little slide show for him…which has become tradition around here for a 13th birthday. It’s a lot of work, but so fun and rewarding to look back over all those old photos. Makes me wish I could get organized enough to get them all in albums!
I think we are slowly getting back into our normal routine after the holidays. Last week was definitely easier than the week before! Christopher and Grace have been spending about 30 minutes most days preparing for the National Mythology Exam. Rose and I are doing Papa Piccolo for Five in a Row and will finish up this week. I am brainstorming ways to get James to work more efficiently. He is a big dawdler lately. It’s a short week for us this week, just three days, since we will take off today and Christopher’s birthday.
Out of doors
Still waiting for enough snow to sled. It’s been cold, rainy, warmish, slushy…pretty much everything but snowy.
In the kitchen lately
I am still working on my slow cooker goal. This week I’m going to make chili in corn muffins per Rose’s request (she saw it on a magazine cover). Also of course, there will be birthday cake – he has requested mocha chocolate.
Watching, reading, crafting
I am reading my third book of the year, The Dog Stars. It took me awhile to get used to the different narration style, but it’s a great book – though not necessarily uplifting! I just started reading the Deltora series with Rose at bedtime and she absolutely loves it, like all mine did at this age. Without the kids, we finished Broadchurch. I wasn’t sure I’d like it, because the subject matter is more than a bit disturbing…but it is so well done that I got hooked and was sorry to see it end. We have been watching Downton every week of course. We took the kids to see the new Star Wars movie and we all loved it – definitely worth seeing on the big screen. As far as crafting goes, I finished up my blanket several weeks ago.
I have another one in the works now, a rainbow inspired one (Grace’s idea). It’s strange to start a new one after so much time working on this one. I miss my knitting being big enough to cover my lap!
Posts I am working on
Preparing for the National Mythology Exam, a review of Junior Analytical Grammar, our row of Papa Piccolo, and a new slow cooker recipe.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
